AIPRA : International Association for

the Promotion and Research of Archaeology

The International Association for the Promotion and Research of Archaeology (AIPRA) is a French organization that was founded by professional archaeologists of all disciplines (anthropology, applied topography, geology, computer graphics, palaeography, etc) who have solid on-site experience in preventive archaeology in France as well as abroad.

The objective of this association is to salvage archaeological sites abroad, to study them as well as emphasize their importance. In addition to our scientific aims the association takes upon itself to assure the training of students, as well as increasing the public’s awareness of its heritage and its cultural identity. Furthermore the association communicates its archaeological results to the scientific community, to the media and to the public.

Our association is open to everyone, especially lovers of archaeology (amateurs, researchers, students, technicians, etc). We also work with many international establishments responsible for preserving heritage sites as well as various national institutions concerned with our missions, such as governments, ministers, universities and research laboratories. In collaboration with our partners, we defend international archaeological heritage sites and insist on the importance of preserving the past for the local population.

Our missions :

Research : through on-site expertise, canvassing and excavations, post-excavations and studies of collections.

- Study : of ancient civilizations through excavations, study of archives, texts, paintings, prints, objects, bones, buildings, etc

- Training : putting our knowledge and skills to use in order to ensure a professional approach to the annexe of archaeology (restoration, data processing, stratigraphy, drawings, topography, etc)

- Promotion and Communication : in order to make public our activities, our objectives and results are communicated to the press and the media, publications, internet, conferences and round-tables.

Heritage preservation and

its awareness is necessary.

Knowledge of the past is important

to our present implications.
